Half of a Yellow Sun is a 2013 Anglo-Nigerian historical drama film directed by Biyi Bandele and based on the novel of the same name by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The film follows the lives of twin sisters Olanna (Thandie Newton) and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) who return to Nigeria after completing their university education in the United Kingdom and United States. They soon become caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War, as the Igbo people struggle to establish an independent republic of Biafra.
